Hello and welcome!

This is the first of many postings (I hope). My goal is to document and capture our new life in Cincinnati, OH.

Stretching my Legs

For those that know me, dancing and fitness have always been to great hobbies in my life. When I first moved to Cincinnati, I was very concerned what I was going to do to help meet my need to keep moving.

I have found that my "go to" activity is walking. We live in downtown Cincinnati. I find my favorite place to walk is along the Ohio River. My regular trek has me passing Paul Brown Stadium (Bengals play here) and Great American Ball Park (Reds home). I keep heading east to Sawyer Point, eventually I will cross the river on the Purple People Bridge. Then I will loop back.

I have found that Turbo, my 4 year old English bulldog, and I encounter the most interest people along our journey. A bulldog in downtown Cincinnati is a freak of nature. We are constantly stopped by people wanting to met or pet her. However, thanks to Turbie...the Mounted Police and the Firefighers know us by sight. That is always a good thing. We do have to watch out for stay food. Turbo isn't afraid to pick up scraps off the groud. She even stole a sandwich from a women at a bus stop. (After that incident, we put Turbo in doggie school)

It has taken us awhile to get used to the walking terrin here. Cincinnati is called the Queen City because the City Center is between 5 mountains (aka very big hills) This makes downtown Cincinnati have its share of rolling hills. I don't know how we do it, but our entire walk always seems to be up hill. You don't have to take my word for it...ask Turbie! Good for the heart and rear...but can wear you out fast.

The climate in Cincinnati is milder than Memphis. Although, it is as humid; it doesn't last as long. Therefore, our walking season is much longer.

When it recently got very hot, I decided that I need to find a nice alternative to walking on those hot days. I found it in my Rythm in Motion class.

This class is sponsored by the Cincinnati Ballet. It blends hip hop, jazz, ballet, African and club dancing. It is nothing but pure fun! The instructor Heather is OUTSTANDING. Her energy is tremendous. I am doing leaps and extensions that I thought my body had long ago rusted from doing. I am so addicted that I typically go to class 4 days a week. It is a great way to get your heart up and practice doing multiple things at once.

The next time you come to visit me, you can believe a class will be on the agenda!
